Tesla Cybertruck Spring update to introduce tank turn-esque ability

Tesla’s upcoming Spring update is poised to be substantial, with new visual updates for Model 3 and Model Y units with AMD chips, Auto Shift Beta improvements for Model S and Model X units from the 2021 model year and later, and Hands-Free Trunk features being introduced. As per Tesla, however, the Cybertruck will be receiving a few extra goodies from the upcoming update. 

Tesla noted in its official Cybertruck account on X that the Spring update would introduce Powersharing from Vehicle to Home, which would give the all-electric pickup truck the capability to power homes using a Universal Home Connector and Powershare Gateway during grid outages. Features like Cabin Overheat Protection, new horn and lock sounds, and a colorizer are also expected to be rolled out in the upcoming software update.

Most importantly, the Spring update will introduce improvements to the Cybertruck’s turning circle. As per Tesla on X, the Cybertruck’s turning circle will be improved by 1.6 feet, which should make parking and low-speed maneuvers on the Cybertruck even easier for drivers. Tesla Cybertruck Lead Engineer Wes Morrill shared a video of a Cybertruck Release Candidate with an improved turning circle, and it is quite impressive. 

As could be seen in the short video, which was posted on social media platform X, the Cybertruck’s smaller turning circle allows the all-electric pickup truck to perform turns that look almost as tight as Rivian’s “Tank Turn” demonstration from 2019. Tank Turn was a highly-anticipated feature for the Rivian R1T and Rivian R1S, but the feature has been delayed and is yet to be released by the electric truck maker. 

The update that’s rolling out to the fleet makes full use of the front and rear steering travel to minimize turning circle. In this case a reduction of 1.6 feet just over the air

The Tesla Cybertruck is arguably the company’s most advanced vehicle to date, though the all-electric pickup truck is still being refined by the EV maker. Just recently, reports emerged stating that Cybertruck deliveries have been temporarily paused so that Tesla could address an issue with the vehicle’s accelerator pedal. As per a Road & Track report, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is aware of the issue and is in contact with Tesla to gather additional information about the matter.
