The Man of Steel's Secret Identity

As you watch “The Man of Steel”, coming to movie theatres this Friday, you may get a different idea about Superman’s secret identity.  And I don’t mean Clark Kent.  The man of steel is a symbol, pointing to someone infinitely better, if you’re willing to accept it.

Remember back in 2006 when “Superman Returns” came out?  There was a lot of talk about Superman as a Christ figure.  I have it from an insider that this theme is even more evident in the “Man of Steel.”

If this sounds kind of far out, recall C. S. Lewis did the same thing with the character Aslan the Lion in “The Chronicles of Narnia” series.  Was Aslan really Christ?  Of course not, and Superman is not either, but both fictional characters can remind us of the real Jesus and his mission.

Superman is sent to earth by his father, from up in the heavens somewhere.  He lives life as an ordinary man until the time for his revealing around the age of 30.  And in this new movie, Superman submits himself to a mortal enemy, so that humanity will not be destroyed.

Sure, there will be all kinds of special effects and excitement with some of the best actors.  But promise me, watch for clues like I’ve mentioned.  Who knows, you may encounter God behind the scenes at the movies.
