The Birther Summit Offers Refunds

On February 21, 2012, The Birther Summit issued an announcement that, due to a lack of funding, it had postponed indefinitely its event that was planned for the end of March. At this time, it still appears that financial resources that would be necessary to host an event in the manner that had been planned are still not available.

Additionally, it was explained that, during the course of planning and marketing the event, more money had been spent on those functions than what had actually been received through early registration fees. Since the event had only been postponed, and not canceled, and since the event was operating in the red, no refunds of early registration fees that had been paid was offered at that time.

We would like it to be understood that, even though we were not able to host the actual event we had hoped would occur, there are still many positive things we have been able to accomplish—not the least of which is raising public awareness of the eligibility issue and our movement. Moreover, we remain active in many behind-the-scenes efforts.

However, knowing that the registration fees that were paid were not necessarily outright donations to our cause, and that we simply were not able to bring the event to fruition, we want to offer, for a limited time, the ability for those who paid a registration fee, who would like a refund of those fees, to receive one. Registration fee refunds will be available by request to those who send an email to [email protected] no later than June 11, 2012. That email must include the registrant’s name and address, and the date the registration was purchased. After June 11, a refund will be mailed to anyone who provides this information.

Finally, we are offering these refunds, not because it is an easy thing for us to do (the refunds will have to be provided from our personal funds), but because we believe it is the right thing to do. We would also like to challenge anybody within our movement who has accepted payments from people as a means to accomplish some stated goal(s), to refund the money for any goal that was not achieved—whether or not it is believed that the lack of achievement was due to the incompetence of those receiving the funds. Refunds should especially be offered by anyone who has publicly criticized us for not offering them.

Just as it is the right thing for us to offer these refunds, so would it be the right thing for anyone else who has not been able to reach the goals for which money has been given, because we believe that integrity matters.

Be assured that we continue to work toward the legal resolution of this constitutional crisis.
