MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD BEING CHALLENGED IN EGYPT: Telecom Tycoon Launches Party Vying for President

He’s Egypt’s equivalent to Donald Trump. His name is Naguib Sawiris (pictured). He’s a telecom tycoon from the North African region, among Forbes’ top 60 wealthiest billionaires and Egypt’s second wealthiest citizen. And, in the face of a seemingly eminent rule by the Muslim Brotherhood, post-Mubarak, he’s taking matters into his own hands.

Sawiris has launched a new political party called “Al Masryeen Al Ahrar” or “The free Egyptians,” and it is quickly becoming a serious contender to the ominous Brotherhood, based on the principles of establishing a government that is all-inclusive, non-religious and pro capitalism. Much to the need of his country, Sawiris has staggering amounts of business experience and immense popularity. In light of this news in Egypt a recent video titled “Egypt’s Next Bully” was released and covering
Egypt’s developing Presidential race.
So the question is can The Free Egyptian’s party really muscle out the Muslim Brotherhood? According to numerous accounts the Brotherhood will take on the role of Egypt’s largest political bloc, once the new Parliament is formed, further raising fears that this will lead to a tense and divided country.

Fueled by this, Dr. Abdel-Moneim-Abul-Futuh, a senior member of the Muslim Brotherhood, recently made a bid for the Egyptian Presidency going back on the organization’s claims after the revolution that it had no plans to enter into the political race for Egypt’s new election.

So, how does this project on the integrity of the Muslim Brotherhood as a ruling party?

Granted, Dr. Futah states he is running as an “independent,” broken off from the Brotherhood and sans their backing. But many in Egypt and around the globe are asking if this is nothing more than an Islamic Trojan Horse.

After all, it was only last February 9th that Futah himself, speaking on behalf of the Muslim Brotherhood, was quoted in The Washington Post (see the link below) as saying, “The Brotherhood has already decided not to field a candidate for president in any forthcoming elections. We want to set the record straight so that any Middle East policy decisions made in Washington are based on facts and not the shameful and racist agendas of Islamophobes.” …And yet, here he is, running for President.
