SHERIFF DISARMS HIS CITIZENS: Wins Case to Arbitrarily Award Weapon Permits

In a stunning case even for the Left Coast a federal judge in California has ruled in favor of a local county sheriff’s policy that no one in his jurisdiction can carry a concealed weapon in public without first proving to his office that they face a legitimate threat to their safety.

Needless to say, gun rights proponents, such as Larry Pratt, the executive director of the Gun Owners of America (GOA), are not sitting still for this. With a head of steam and a major point of contention regarding the inarguable, black-and-white protection afforded Americans, even Californians, by the 2nd Amendment, Pratt is available for interviews to expound on his following comments:

“U.S. District Court Judge Morrison England, Jr. has ruled that a CA sheriff can be arbitrary and capricious when he issues concealed carry firearms permits. Most attorneys never read the Constitution in Constitutional Law classes, so it could be the judge has not read the Second Amendment, which concludes that ‘the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.’ There is no wiggle room here.

As the Founders understood ‘keep and bear,’ it was a requirement that all free men must own a military rifle and come when called to serve in the militia. Colonial laws provided fines for not traveling with some kind of a firearm.

Yolo County Sheriff Ed Prieto is acting as if he is the sovereign of his county a typical conceit of members of the self-appointed ruling class. Prieto’s mistake is to view himself as a sovereign ruling over subjects. If a crime is attempted against a county resident, it is rather certain that the Sheriff will not be around to protect the citizens he has disarmed.

Of course, he is protected from being sued for damages by the unconstitutional doctrine of sovereign immunity. The doctrine was invented by the ruling class to protect themselves from being held accountable in court for their negligence or worse. Since they are not the sovereign, the ruling class should not be protected by the doctrine of sovereign immunity.

Hopefully the voters of Yolo County will take Sheriff Prieto to the woodshed.”
