Is Rick Snyder the VP Choice? I Hope Not!

According to a GOP insider and this article on the Detroit News, Rick Snyder may very well be Mitt Romney’s choice for VP.

Chris Ingram, a Tampa consultant, in a piece for Tampa Bay Online,
based his assessment of the prime hotel location the Great Lakes State
delegation got for the Republican convention in August in Tampa. It’s a
big deal within party politics which hotel a state is assigned.

The
premise was deflected by Snyder’s office, which said he’s focused on
Michigan’s progress, and political experts who questioned having two
businessmen on the same ticket.

The
delegation from Massachusetts, where Romney was governor and the state
he now calls home, won the best spot. The second-best assignment went to
Michigan, which got rooms at the Embassy Suites Downtown Convention
Center, Ingram argues. It’s a prize for Michigan’s top Republican, who
endorsed Romney in the primary and is qualified with his business
background to be Romney’s pick, Ingram predicts.

“This was an indication of things that may come,” Ingram told The News.

Snyder spokeswoman Sara Wurfel said in an e-mail the speculation recognizes the “significant turnaround” under Snyder.

Yes, Michigan has seen a significant turnaround under Rick Snyder, but I do not want a Snyder, Romney ticket. 

I am a little curious, how many of my out of state readers know anything about Rick Snyder?  I get the impression he isn’t too well known at this point, which is one reason I don’t want to see him on the ticket.  I personally think Romney needs to have a VERY strong running mate and Snyder is not that in my opinion.

My other main concern is the fact Rick Snyder is just as moderate as Mitt Romney.  While I think taking the position as a businessman-in-chief works on the state level, there is much more to a Presidency.  Rick Snyder is not the man to please social Conservatives, and after the social experiment Obama has been doing with our country, we need someone willing to make some serious changes.

I must admit, I would also like to keep Rick here in Michigan to finish what he has started, where his lack of emphasis an emphasis on pushing a pro-life and Christian agenda doesn’t concern me as much as it would on the national level.

With
Romney and Snyder both former businessmen, both with relatively little
political experience as governors and both perceived as moderates, would
Romney want to make a pick that’s similar to himself, Goldstein asked.

Like
Goldstein, John Truscott, a GOP political consultant in Michigan,
disagreed with Ingram and said the hotel spot is a “salute to the home
state that came through for him at a crucial time.”

While a nod to Snyder is flattering, Truscott says Snyder wouldn’t diversify the ticket.
“I don’t see a ticket with two successful businessmen,” he said.

I’m hoping Goldstein and Truscott are right and Ingram is wrong.  I tend to agree, I don’t see Mitt having two moderate businessmen on one ticket.

I did not support Snyder in his bid for the GOP nomination for governor and I would not gain one bit of excitement about the Romney nomination with Snyder as his running mate.  I’m still holding out hope for Rubio!
