Parole Alert: Brian Nelson, Lowcountry double cop killer

On November 19, 2002, my Dad and Deputy Wright of the Berkely County Sheriff’s Office were assisting a disabled motorist when a vehicle driven by Brian L. Nelson drove off the road, striking and killing both men. Mr. Nelson, a life-long epileptic, had a history of seizure-induced traffic accidents and was prohibited by state law from operating a vehicle or obtaining a SC driver’s license. In addition, his physicians advised him not to drive, as his seizures were uncontrolled and he was heavily medicated. Mr. Nelson, however, disregarded the laws of this state, the recommendations of his doctors, and a prior conviction for a similar offense (seizure-induced traffic accident) and continued to drive anyway ultimately leading to the accident that killed two men.

After striking my Dad and Deputy Wright, Brian Nelson attempted to flee the scene but was detained by a witness to the accident. Mr. Nelson was arrested for two counts of reckless homicide, pled guilty to the charges, and was sentenced to two consecutive 10 year terms (20 years). However, after serving only eight years of a 20 year sentence, Brian L. Nelson is now eligible for parole, and on May 25, he will be released from Lieber Prison if we don’t stop it. And so, my family is asking for your help.

You only need to have the offender’s name and his inmate number to complete the parole opposition form, and that information has been provided for you.
