Gun Control, is it really worth it?

Ever sense the Colorado shooting there has been a massive amount of discussion on my Facebook page by my friends and family. I do not have hundreds or thousands of friends because I tend to only friend people I actually know, it has been a very lively debate. On my page I have friends who argue the Liberal view on Gun Control and the Conservative view as well. I have a very broad base of friends because I have a very broad base of views.

                On that note, let me give you my opinion followed by a few of the individuals on my pages logic on the issue of Gun Control.

                First and foremost, I am a firm believer in the 2cnd amendment and I will defend it to my death for myself as well as you dear reader. I feel that it is the responsibility of every Free Man and Woman on the face of the Earth to hold and posses a weapon of some type in order to defend their family, friends and Country in the event of invasion. Our founders enshrined the 2cnd amendment in The Bill of Rights to ensure that every man woman and yes child would be able to take up arms to defend their property and country, not to hunt and feed their families.

                Our nation has been a bastion, or so we claim, of Freedom and Liberty, neither of which we would have without our 2cnd amendment. Our Military and Government are not the reason that this nation has not been invaded or a major conflict fought on our shores. In the last 200 years there is one thing and one thing only that have kept any country from trying to attack our shores. Each and every country on this planet knows that to land a military force on the shores of America would lead to a MASSIVE amount of losses for them. You see, these countries are not stupid.  These countries know that they will not only have to fight our Military, but virtually each and every Citizen in the country because we are a freely armed Citizenry.  Without this guarantee of total retaliation by the American populace, I am almost certain there would have been an attempt to invade this land by some of our larger enemies. Our 2cnd amendment assures that not one nation on this Earth would attempt an all out invasion of this land.

                We as a people believe in our right to keep and bare arms. We believe this because we know how important, or at least some of us do, that it is to be able to defend yourself and your family in trying times. Our nation is wrought with crime, I know this, you know this, we all know this. It is yet another reason for Men and Women to keep arms to defend themselves from thieves, burglars and murderers.  Without a gun in your home you are ten times more likely to die in a home invasion, which as our economy worsens, will rise!

                Now, some of my more Liberal friends take an entirely different stance. Most of the Liberal friends I have truly believe that if we outlaw guns, then these murders will stop. My Liberal friends tend to think that the Police force or the Government is totally capable of protecting us, if we could just preclude private gun ownership. They feel that if we take all the guns out of this country then we will be a much safer and secure nation. I guess in a way I can agree with this in theory, yet we all know that is not the way this would work. Once all guns have been confiscated from LEGAL gun owners, so will begin the rise of the outlaw in this nation once again. You see, when only those that do not obey the Law have the guns, you’re fucked!

                Our police, the CIA, FBI, DHS and all the other alphabet agencies were not able to stop this man from doing what he did. The sad fact is this: if only one person in that movie theatre would have had a Concealed Carry license, the training required to get that license and the gun to go with it, a lot less people would have died.

                We have been told that if we could just get rid of all the guns, these things would not happen. In fact, this is the most obtuse argument you could put forward. See the thing is this; a gun is just a piece of metal. It cannot think. It cannot make life and death decisions. It can only do what the holder wants it to.  The town that the shooting occurred in has some of the strictest Gun Control laws on the books and that did not stop this massacre. No amount of anti gun laws would have stopped this. You can live in a fake world and say it would, but you and I both know that a nut can get a gun even when they are illegal. Remember, only Law Abiding Citizens obey the Law, not criminals.

                So, do we really need more Gun Control?

                Or maybe, just maybe, we need to loosen the laws that would allow honest American Citizens to own and carry weapons. Maybe, just maybe if we did that, these nuts that go on shooting rampages would kill a lot less people.
