Another Happy Anniversary to my parents

We wish our parents another happy anniversary.

Our parents met a couple of years before they got married. It is a great story and one that we recall today.

The story is that my father, a young banker, took a trip to Ciego de Avila, a small town in Cuba. He took this “trip” to visit an old family friend who had not seen him since he was a baby. He went there to satisfy his mother’s request.

He knocked on the door and a young woman answered. (It turned out that she lived a couple of doors down the street)

My future dad, a few months after celebrating his 23rd birthday, took a look at my future mom, who had just turned 19, and he returned every weekend until they were married.

We’ve heard this story many times, specially every time that my parents talk about their early days.

My mom’s version goes like this: He fell for me as soon as I opened the door.

My dad does not deny that it was “love at first sight” but he adds that she kept looking at him.

Question: Was it my mom’s good figure, blue eyes and “free spirit”? Or was it my dad’s presence, his serious nature and brown eyes?

My brother, sister and I have heard the story about a million times. We issued a verdict a few years ago and called it “a tie”, i.e. they fell for each other.

In other words, it was meant to be!

We thank God that he brought them together that morning in a small town in Cuba.

Like we do every Sunday, we will see my parents today. I’m sure that my mom will cook and everyone will have a great time.

We salute our parents on another anniversary and we wish them a wonderful day.
