Agenda 21 In Ohio - Fact or Conspiracy?

I am often chastised for my questions about the use of taxpayer monies. I really don’t like being told that it is really none of our business.

In my continued quest to find out more the Agenda 21 proposition, I uncovered a spring 2012 report from the Southern Poverty Law Center.
“The Southern Poverty Law Center is a nonprofit civil rights organization dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry, and to seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of society.
Founded by civil rights lawyers Morris Dees and Joseph Levin Jr. in 1971, the SPLC is internationally known for tracking and exposing the activities of hate groups. Our innovative Teaching Tolerance program produces and distributes – free of charge – documentary films, books, lesson plans and other materials that promote tolerance and respect in our nation’s schools.”

The report includes the following; On its face, Agenda 21 does nothing but provide countries and communities with a set of principles to grow smartly — a plan, in short, to fight overpopulation, pollution, poverty and resource depletion.

But for a far-flung network of antigovernment extremists who have risen up to attack it, the nonbinding document that was approved 20 years ago at the UN’s Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro is not really about preserving the planet at all. Between the lines, they argue, lies a blueprint for the “New World Order.”

In the years since President George H. W. Bush signed on to a global sustainability program in 1992, a raft of far right activists have warned shrilly of a plot to create an authoritarian one-world government. They include (from top) John Bush of Texans for Accountable Government; Tom DeWeese of the American Policy Center; Phyllis Schlafly of the Eagle Forum; and Internet television host Glenn Beck.

In his final days on Fox News, Glenn Beck passionately argued that by agreeing to follow Agenda 21, the U.S. government had colluded with internationalists to undermine its own sovereignty and turn the nation into an environmental refuge where nature would take precedence over people.

“Those pushing … government control on a global level have mastered the art of hiding it in plain sight, and then just dismissing it as a joke,” Beck told his viewers, holding up the 294-page document. He cautioned: “Once [internationalists] put their fangs into our communities and suck all the blood out of it, we will not be able to survive.”

I, myself, think that Glenn Beck can be a bit of an alarmist. But, after connecting a few of the dots, I have to agree that this is no joke. In an earlier post, we were told that our middle class lifestyle has been declared unsustainable by the authors of the Agenda 21 accord. It is hidden in plain sight of the taxpayer and, should you start asking those irritating questions, you will be laughed at and demonized as an anti-environmentalist, a selfish American who cares more about yourself than the poor or illiterate others in the world. Our politicians, following the leftest environmental, educate and elevate the world special interests, are using our tax dollars to fund it all; right in front of our faces!

The Southern Poverty Law Center goes on to say; While there is some opposition to Agenda 21 from the left — from groups like Democrats Against Agenda 21 — it’s on the radical right that the UN plan has become a touchstone of a larger theme that equates environmentalism with totalitarianism and the loss of individual freedom.

Armed with suspicions and “research,” activists have disrupted meetings from Oklahoma to Ohio, where a Facebook group called Ohio Agenda 21 Watch keeps tabs on “the many socialist groups working in Ohio whose aim is take away our sovereignty and incorporate Ohio into UN control.”

There seems to be an even better question: Is there something real to fear in Agenda 21 — or is it just another bogeyman of the politically paranoid?

The Northeast Ohio Area Wide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) is the METROPOLITAN planning organization for CUYAHOGA, GEAUGA, LAKE, LORAINE and MEDINA COUNTIES in Ohio. NOACA lists Cleveland (Agenda 21 City) and Lorain/Elyria as Metropolitan areas. The 5 county area has 165 government entities. As the region’s metropolitan planning organization they determine how federal transportation and state dollars are spent in the region. Each year, NOACA receives approximately $49-$55 million in federal and state funds. In addition, NOACA carries out certain AIR and WATER quality planning (EPA) and outreach activities. This year (2012) NOACA received $4.5 million federal tax dollars to aid in establishing Sustainable Communities (AGENDA 21). NOACA’s mission statement continually talks about regional planning and doing what’s best for the region, a Regional Prosperity Initiative goal which is reinvesting in and rebuilding “core” cities where infra structure already exists, I.E. Cleveland.
