Boston Bombing Proves Gun Background Checks Are A Waste Of Time

Quite seriously, if the Russian government can hand our government a case like this – given what we now know of the radicalization of Tsarnaev and Tamerland Tsarnaev, what possible good could come of perfunctory background checks as regards gun purchases?

Other than to facilitate the government’s building of a national database of gun owners, there’s no reason to believe any so called background check would do anything at all to keep any American safe in some mysterious way.

The senior law enforcement official said the Russians feared he could be a risk, and “they had something on him and were concerned about him, and him traveling to their region.”

But the F.B.I. never followed up on Tamerlan once he returned, a senior law enforcement acknowledged on Saturday, adding that the bureau had not kept tabs on him until he was identified on Friday as the first suspect in the marathon bombing case.
