Ohio budget item addresses mowing near reservoirs

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A provision in the Ohio Senate’s proposed state budget revives a dispute about control of narrow strips of city-owned land near reservoirs in Columbus.
At issue is whether the city can block nearby homeowners from mowing that land, which is planted with certain grasses and shrubs to help absorb rainwater and the pollutants in it.
The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/191W4lN ) reports a proposal from Republican Sen. Kris Jordan would let residents mow such land and stop cities from intervening. Jordan says an average person would view the mowing as basic maintenance for a homeowner’s property.
People who repeatedly mowed such land in Columbus have previously been charged with trespassing by the city. Columbus officials say only the city should decide how the land is maintained because it belongs to the city.

Are you kidding me? The Ohio Senate has to add something in the Ohio budget about this issue? The city of Columbus can not handle this themselves?

Maybe we should also add amendments that address fracking, gas prices, food and high energy costs, force gas companies to build the infrastructure that allows for new natural gas customers; Kris Jordan should focus on the things that benefit us and let us worry about mowing the grass!
