ROFL. Chernobyl was FAR worse, and we haven’t gone extinct.

Fukashima is a real mess, and yes people from the coastline of Alaska to southern California and Hawaii along with some other island in the pacific are going to experience big increases in cancers related to absorption of radioactive isotopes (drink R.O and bottle water only, take your vitamins and don’t eat sea food from the pacific, you’ll do better than others with the cancers and birth defects). But it is not a life ending event at all. They do need to get those remaining fuel rods sent to a re-processor, and the damaged core needs to be dealt with, then the whole thing needs a boron treated concrete plug poured into every opening to seal it up so it quits leaking into the pacific. We also need updated maps of the contamination spread so we can see it’s being taken care of.
Yeah, it’s no big deal. MOX fuel is perfectly safe. Except it’s the most dangerous cocktail of radioactive material known to man.
One speck of radiated dust (inhaled, ingested, or taken into the body via open wound) will kill a person.
Hundreds of rods that were stored above the reactor blew miles out into the ocean, they will never be recovered and never cleaned up.
The jet stream is still carrying airborne particulates all over the globe, raining them down periodically, contaminating top soil.
The best part is the united States operates 23 GE Mark 1 reactors of the same type as Fukushima, many near major fault lines.
