October 28, 2013: The United States is installing elemennts of the missile defense system at a former airbase at Deveselu in southern Romania specifically an Aegis system with SM-3 interceptors. Romania has become one of the United States’ main partners, not only in central europe, but also throughout the continent. American troops had already used Romanian bases for operations for operations in Iraq, and Afghaistan in 1999, and since 2005 four small Romanian bases have been leased by the U.S. military.
December 19, 2013: Putin sought to reassure the West about Russia’s deployment of Iskander missiles in the exclave of Kaliningrad had not yet been decided.
