The Cowardice Of Silence & The Sin Of Omission

Silence hides things. Usually the truth. Speaking up exposes falsehood. Silence usually covers it.

There has never in the history of the world been more ways to communicate and yet, at the same time, more silence about the things that matter the most. Most of what we hear is noise…meaningless lip-service designed to silence our conscience. For many language is the Devil’s way of concealing the truth.

“Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” James 4:17.

If speaking up is not important can you explain to me why so many are trying to silence free speech? Only lies are permitted to be repeated. Truth is shoved into the closet. Truth is mocked. Truth is attacked. Truth is called hate and intolerance and racist. Truth must be silenced in order for lies to live.

Truth is the anti-biotic for falsehood. America is infected with lies and those who carry the anti-dote are afraid to administer it.

The cowardice of silence is destroying more lives than cigarette smoking ever hoped to.

Silence isn’t golden, it is yellow.

You think I am wrong? Try applying a little bit of common sense, mix it with a pinch of logic, and spread it with words and you will quickly find yourself more hated than the Marlboro Man. People love the lies they have been told and they don’t want you or anyone else shining the light of truth into their darkened hearts.

They would rather live in the caverns of deception where the only light that illuminates their world is the moon which is nothing more than a reflection of the true light. As a result, they see through a glass darkly. What they see is not even real. They live and walk in shadows.

But we permit them to do so. Our unwillingness to “let our shine light before men” has granted permission for a world groping in the darkness to “love the darkness more than light.” Silence is evil. To permit is to participate.

That is the folly of the “who-are-you-to-judge” silent, complacent, compliant Christian Church. Silence is simply hiding one’s light under a bushel.

What is the purpose of the light? Do you need a flashlight in the middle of the afternoon? Are we supposed to shine our light in the security of the church where the light is already present? If you took a flashlight and shined it in your church service would anyone even notice?

Probably not, because light was designed to repel darkness. Remove darkness and there is no purpose for light. Remove light and darkness gushes in like a flood. Darkness and light are mutually exclusive. They are like fire and water. They cannot exist together. Light casts out darkness. Darkness is merely the absence of light. Remove light and darkness lives. Turn on the light and darkness dies.

But men love darkness because their deeds are evil. Sin is fungus of the soul. Fungus grows fastest in the darkness. Light is always the greatest disinfectant. Truth is light.

Some things are right and some things are wrong. There is no “gray area” because gray is a mixture of black and white. Only the intellect of man can create gray out of light. Gray is a neutral color…neither dark nor light. That is the color of most Christians.

Do you remember the early days of American TV when the “westerns” flooded the screen? In those days there was no question about right and wrong. Good guys wore white hats and the bad guys wore the black ones. Today, everyone wears a gray hat. It is hard to tell the good guys from the bad guys.

Christians need to take off the gray hat and put on a white one. Jesus told us to be black or white. Evidently God is not partial to gray.
