Freedom Ed: Marxism Comes to America

One of the goals of CTA is to promote the voice of conservatives inside of the education profession. Stephanie Morgan writes over at Freedom Ed. I found this post the other day and thought it was worth sharing.

Most American students never read the Communist Manifesto at all, and certainly not in any quality comparative way, but I believe that reading and comparing it’s ideas to the ideas of our founders, who created the antithesis to it, is a imperative in broad education. Most Americans reject warning voices about the threats of statism in our own country. They call those who warn of the tyranny we face, radical extremists. American students today are taught history with gaping holes in it, they are persuaded to see history in a distorted way that favors the ideas of the statists like Karl Marx, and demonizes the character of the Founders of the greatest experiment in human freedom ever known to man. I believe that our public education curriculum intentionally leaves out an in depth study of the American Constitution, as well as, a similar and comparative study of it’s antithesis, the Communist Manifesto. It is easier that way to mistake tyranny for freedom.

The Communist Manifesto postdates the Constitution by 61 years, and I believe in large part it was a reaction to America’s Great Experiment. Our founders laid out their vision for how the world would be transformed through the protection of individual liberty and equality under the law for all. Karl Marx countered by laying out his vision for world transformation, that contained the ultimate paradox, equality through force. Now we have a President who speaks of “transforming America” and a citizenry who barely questions what he plans to transform us into.
