What Stephen Colbert Moving to David Letterman’s “Late Night” Slot Really Means

David Letterman is stepping down and is to be replaced by Stephen Colber,t who plays a Conservative on his Colbert Report.  Although there were many possible choices, CBS decided to go with someone who satirizes Conservatives for a living.

Why?

Colbert’s viewers are overwhelmingly young with many having high incomes which are desperately sought after by advertisers.  Obviously the brass at CBS feels that this was a smart move.

It’s anything but.

Conservatives are frozen out of late night television.  Jay Leno was the most Conservative host and, as such, enjoyed a large audience.  Jimmy Fallon, who replaced him, is Liberal.  Jimmy Kimmel is Liberal.  David Letterman is Liberal.  Colbert lampoons Conservatives every night on his show.

In short, CBS decided to tell half of America they don’t care about them.

Stephen Colbert has contributed large sums of money to charities like the Ribbon Fund which donates money to wounded military members and their family, and he has visited the troops overseas (which is more than his counterparts on other shows have done) but many Conservatives will likely be turned off by his persona on the Colbert Report and will decide not to watch him.

I stopped watching Letterman 10 years ago when he kept bringing his (Liberal) politics into things.

Letterman has made no secret of his dislike of Conservatives.

We are past the era where the talk show host was not the center of attention, their guest was.  Now whatever political beliefs the host has, their guests or conversation reflects that.

And it is always overwhelmingly Liberal.

Conservatives are simply shut out of late night television with the exception of shows like Fox News’ Red Eye.

CBS went with a guy who they think will steal rich, young Liberals from the competition but, in the long run, it is they who will be the real losers as they just kissed goodbye the “flyover” country.

Colbert may still prove himself to be the most neutral of all of the hosts (at 49 he will be the oldest), however, on the face of it, I think CBS should have picked someone who doesn’t make their living mocking one group over another.
