I am weeping for Kosovo!

The situation in Kosovo is still deplorable especially what I am hearing is that there are many families going without food, and they are blessed to have one meal a day. This also goes for the six soup kitchens, as those who volunteer are now telling me they can only feed children at schools once a day, and that they early morning meals has been cancelled. Sometimes the food does not arrive for the day because the volunteers don’t have enough of food. What would we do if we couldn’t go to McDonalds for breakfast or have a decent breakfast with our family?

There are families and monasteries who are having a hard time to pay for their electric bills (since the cost has risen)! What shall we tell these families now go get some candles?

From my last trip to Kosovo I was visiting a convent monastery and the Abbess of the convent told me “I am sorry Father this is all the food we can provide for you today”. I told her I wasn’t hungry. I then visited another convent monastery and they provided me with tomatoes and some fruit.

There are still many families who live in shipping containers!

Now you know why I am weeping!

There are families who can hardly attend church services because they can’t afford the gas to take their families to Church! And or their church was destroyed, many families are praying in their homes.

What a blessing we have to be able to go to Church we can walk in and pray as well as prepare for Holy Communion. What about those in Kosovo? What Church! More than 156 churches and monasteries have been destroyed and not less than ten have been repaired. It will take decades to repair these churches and monasteries.

Keep in mind there are still many families living in homes without water!

I plan to return to Kosovo either in October or November 2015 and maybe earlier since there are so many needs in the region. I just cannot stop weeping!

Then again there are only two hospitals open for Serbians in Kosovo/Metohija.

One such hospital was recently built, but there is hardly any hospital equipment in this hospital. The other open hospital in the region does not have enough medicine and basic needs to assist patients. I plan to visit these hospitals when I go to the region. Keep in mind Serbians can’t attend the other open hospitals in the region as they will be turned away –since they are Serbians.

Many women with child have to go outside the border of Kosovo to even have their babies. Those who might have been very ill must go to Belgrade for further treatment. The trip from Kosovo to Belgrade for those who have serious medical problems takes more than six hours and many who take this trip don’t arrive in time.
