Civil Rights Protesters Seize Federal Building In Oregon

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

The media is calling them ‘Armed Militia members’ but they are protesting the civil rights violations perpetrated by federal agents against local ranchers Steven and Dwight Hammond. They were charged under terrorism laws.

Steven Hammond (on left) and his father Dwight Hammond were sentenced to federal prison for five years.

From the Oregon Farm Bureau:

Today two Oregon ranchers were sentenced to five years in federal prison under terrorism statutes for setting preventative fires on their own land. We are gravely disappointed at this outcome.

Elderly Harney County rancher Dwight Hammond and his son, Steven, a former OFB Board member and Harney County Farm Bureau president, have already served time in federal prison for their mistakes and paid their debt to society for the less-than-140 acres of BLM land that was accidentally impacted by the fires.

This is an example of gross government overreach, and the public should be outraged.”

On Saturday 300 supporters protested in Burns, Oregon against the prosecution of the Harney County ranchers.

Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy’s three sons and around 150 militia members occupied a federal building in eastern Oregon on Saturday, in an attempt to keep two local ranchers from going to prison. The group seized the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge headquarters, located around 50 miles (80km) from Burns, after two of its members were scheduled to go to prison on Monday for setting fire to federal land.”

According to Raw Story the two men have already served time for the infraction but a judge has made the determination that they need to spend five more years in prison.

Dwight Hammond, Jr., 73, and his son, Steven, 46, are expected to report for their 5-year sentence in federal prison Monday, KOIN reports. According to the Associated Press, the pair set the fires to prevent the spread of invasive plants and protect their land from wildfires. But the fires they set spread to federal property. They already spent time in prison, but a federal judge ruled that the sentence was too short and thus illegal under anti-terrorism charges they were convicted for.”
