GOPe: They’re Not On Your Side, No Matter Which Side You’re On

Normally in a presidential campaign year the real invective doesn’t begin until both teams have picked their talisman.

This year however the Republican powers that be have fired up the snatching-defeat-from-the-jaws-of-victory machine™ extra-early.

The interlopers must be driven off, at all costs

Because both of the remaining people’s choice candidates will leave the GOPe Masters of Whiz in their dust. The nomination of either Trump or Cruz is a complete rejection and repudiation of the party’s leadership. It will be the end of Karl Rove, Bill Kristol, Mitt Romney, the Bushes, et al. They can pack up their white boards, briefcases, polls and crony capitalism and head back to the ranch.

Pat Buchanan calls this cabal the Rule or Ruin Republicans – if they can’t rule, they will ruin the party by 1)brokering the convention and giving the nomination to someone the people don’t want or, in the event that doesn’t work, 2) run a third party candidate virtually guaranteeing a Hillary win. This strategy worked pretty well against the grass roots Tea Partiers who tried to usurp their power, so surely it will work against the new rubes and vulgarians at their gate.

So here’s the deal, the GOPe is intent on undermining your candidate – regardless of who it is. Don’t be complicit. Don’t help them disassemble whichever candidate is not your first choice. They have enough gun power of their own, we don’t need to help them kneecap one of their mortal enemies.

It’s clear the GOPe hates Trump and Cruz, as well as you, for supporting them. They really would prefer to lose to Hillary than have either of these dudes win. So this is war. And if Trump and Cruz  don’t realize soon that they need to team up to beat them, the GOPe will beat us.

This isn’t that hard

Unfortunately our two frontrunners share a character flaw – yuge egos. One of them is going to have to let it go and form a coalition before the convention. Deny the GOPe a chance to deploy their strategy for a floor fight. And let’s face it, Ted’s still very young. Donald commits to one term (or less!) and his VP would be well positioned for 8 more years. Come on boys, you can work something out if you just stop trash talking. And if they don’t, it will be business as usual for the oligarchs:

According to the New York Times, super PACs of Trump’s GOP rivals, including PACs of candidates who have dropped out, are raising and spending millions to destroy the probable nominee. Goals of the anti-Trump conspirators: Manipulate the rules and steal the nomination at Cleveland. Failing that, pull out all the stops and torpedo any Trump-led ticket in the fall. Then blame Trump and his followers for the defeat, pick up the pieces, and posture as saviors of the party they betrayed.(snip)

Last week came reports on another closed conclave of the “Never Trump” cabal at the Army and Navy Club in D.C. Apparently, William Kristol circulated a memo detailing how to rob Trump of the nomination, even if he finishes first in states, votes, and delegates.

Should Trump win on the first ballot, Kristol’s fallback position is to create a third party and recruit a conservative to run as its nominee. Purpose: Have this rump party siphon off enough conservative votes to sink Trump and give the presidency to Hillary Rodham Clinton, whose policies are more congenial to the neocons and Kristol’s Weekly Standard.(snip)

The American people want their borders secured, the invasion stopped, the manufacturing plants brought back and an end to the conscription of our best and bravest to fight wars dreamed up in the tax-exempt think tanks of neoconservatives. (snip)

If these conservative defectors from a ticket led by Trump collude with Democrats, by running a third party candidate to siphon off Trump’s votes, they may succeed. Since the republican Oligarchy is clearly an enemy of the good, maybe we should stop bitch-slapping each other over who is the perfect…

and work together to seat one of the imperfect anti-establishment candidates. So I repeat myself, “if you come to a fork in the road, take it.”
