Ted Cruz Still Has A Chance

I just got off the phone with my county GOP chair. He’s been a Cruz supporter. I called him because we found our Primary election ballots when we got home. The ballots list several Republican Presidential candidates. One of them is Senator Ted Cruz. It confused me but my chair set me straight.

He told me that our district representatives are bound to support whomever gets the most votes in the primary. If our Congressional district votes for Cruz the delegate for our district Must vote for him on the first ballot. That could prevent Mr. Trump from acquiring the number of delegates necessary on the first ballot at the national convention to win on the first round of voting.

If he doesn’t get the requisite number there will be a second vote. More if necessary. After the first vote the delegates are released from their commitment and can vote their conscience. He also told me that this district has about 2/3 preference for Cruz.

Senator Cruz has not dropped out of the race. He has merely ‘Suspended’ his campaign. He has not released his delegates. Neither have the other GOP candidates who have suspended their campaign. There will be Cruz people at the national convention. That has been Ted’s plan all along. Imagine the wrangling and negotiating if Trump doesn’t get the first vote.

Our primary ballots will be marked to nominate Senator Cruz.
