Last night’s Presidential debate was important for both candidates.
For Donald Trump (R), supporters needed to see that he could bounce back from the rough patch he hit this past weekend with the release of the Access Hollywood tape controversy. With Hillary Clinton, she needed to inject some enthusiasm in her campaign after Mike Pence (R), Trump’s running mate, won the Vice Presidential debate against Tim Kaine (D). Though news media outlets polled that Clinton won the debate, Trump still exceeded people’s expectations and had a strong performance.
Trump and Clinton walked around the town hall set up, making their case to the American people on why they should vote for them. Clinton used the tape as a talking point, and Trump brought up the recent Wikileaks Wall Street Speech transcripts that were released.
The interesting bit, though, came after the 90-minute debate when the CNN focus group was interviewed on their reactions to the candidates’ performances.
Wolf Blitzer introduced a clip of Hillary Clinton talking about how America is already great. Then, as the audience was transitioning to a live broadcast of the focus group, there was silence when the journalist moderating the focus group was heard “prepping” a member of the group on what she should say. Sure enough, when that member was asked to give her opinion on what she thought about the debate, the member echoed the same thing the journalist was caught whispering during the silent transition.
It was odd to hear live, but it’s something that should be analyzed. Below is the clip.
