What will Sen. Ted Cruz do now?

Where did Ted Cruz’ political instincts go? And how did it happen so fast? Ted was once thought of as a bright star of political integrity who would put principle over expediency. Well, by those who didn’t pay attention anyway. For those of us that did, his capitulation to a political calculation was to be expected – after all, he is a politician.

What we didn’t expect was for him to lose his political instincts and timing so quickly. Two weeks ago, he faced a choice. Trump was on somewhat of a roll, polls were tightening, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick was threatening him, Rep. Michael McCaul was testing the waters with rumors of a primary challenge and Cruz had to make a calculated decision on his future. Would he cement his status as a conservative bellwether? Or would he cave under pressure and hop on the Trump train?

On September 23rd, he made his choice, posting a 756 word endorsement of Trump on Facebook.

Three days after he caved, the world got a look at Trump and Clinton on the same stage and the Trump train has been a downhill ride ever since. And Ted Cruz was left laying on the tracks. And that was BEFORE the video of Trump bragging about sexually assaulting women.

Now what? According to Rosie Gray at Buzzfeed, the Cruz camp is already considering rescinding his endorsement.

If that is true, that’s even dumber than endorsing Trump in the first place. It only shows that Cruz is a regular old politician that sticks his finger in the wind before making a decision. He’s already “condemned” Trump, no need to do more than that.

Check out the hate from the Trumpsters. Imagine what they’ll do if he rescinds his endorsement.

You know what he should do? Want my advice Ted?

Shut up. Just shut up for once. Focus on doing the actual job of being a Texas Senator and try to mitigate the damage that this country is going to face under President Hillary Clinton. Prove to us with your actions that you really are a conservative leader and that principle does matter. When you were running for the Senate in 2011, you told me “I have to do this. My girls are depending on me.” Be that man.

Anything less and we can all hope that McCaul follows through on his threat.
