Fifty Year-Old Military Music

(Before It's News)

Fifty years ago the United States was entangled in a war in Viet Nam, Southeast Asia. It was an ugly war as all wars are. Some of the worst of it was sending our men home after their tour and them having to encounter anti-war protesters. Some of the men were fighting yesterday and today are walking through the terminal in San Francisco.

There was an official effort to create military music with a positive slant. Staff Sergeant Barry Sadler recorded the Ballad of the Green Berets in 1966.

Some have said it was a reaction to Eric Burdon’s release the year before of what actually was the theme song for the Viet Nam war, “We Gotta Get Outta This Place”, always played with the volume on eleven.

Hope this doesn’t trigger some.
