Little Girl Suspended Over Butter Knife

Zero tolerance strikes again. An 11-year-old girl was suspended for 6 days from Silver Trail Middle School in Pembroke Pines, Florida after using a butter knife to cut a peach in half to share with a friend.

“This is a set of a spoon, fork and knife for toddlers — one year old,” [her mother] Andrea Souto said. “It is made for children to learn how to eat properly. She’s used it since she was baby.”

According to the school district, the girl violated the county’s weapon policy when she used her butter knife in the cafeteria to cut the peach.

According to her father Ronald,

“She’s afraid now of the educators. She’s afraid of people at school.”

At least they are teaching the students something valuable: distrust of authority and those who abuse it.
