Jericho Elementary School in Centereach, New York cancelled its mock presidential election because of concerns raised by teachers and staff about kids repeating “negative rhetoric about minorities.”
“Teachers have said they’ve heard some kids in the cafeteria chanting ‘Trump! Trump! Trump!’ or saying they don’t want Muslims here,” said Glen Rogers, principal of Jericho Elementary School in Centereach, New York.
Well, Mr. Principal, this seems fishy to me. After all, I assume that the mock election would have some mock up of voting booths or voting stations. And I doubt that the kids would be vocally disparaging minorities while voting. So I do wonder why this event really was cancelled. And maybe I know why. I think that the real reason was that lefty teachers probably had been feeling out the kids’ positions before the election’s date, and knew a Trump win was coming; much like the statewide results in Iowa and Minnesota. And because, as the below abcNews video notes, the mock election results are covered by local media, they didn’t want that result to be in the press.
If I’m correct, and I think there’s a good chance I am, then that is a real shame for the kids. I mean, what a lesson to learn – that it’s OK if “government” cancels elections because it won’t like the result. But you know, things might work out well after all. The kids could be studying Venezuela.
