UC Irvine Professor's Petition to Designate UC Irvine as Sanctuary Campus

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

University Hills is a housing area adjacent to the UC Irvine campus where professors and their families reside. Below is a mass email sent out by a UCI professor in University Hills to other residents. It asks recipients to sign a petition that would designate UCI as a sanctuary campus for undocumented students. This email was forwarded to me by a friend who lives in University Hills. I am posting this without comment.

Subject: [Uhills] Petition to designate UCI a sanctuary campus
Dear Colleagues in University Hills,

I write today to ask that you consider signing a petition (see link
below) to designate UCI a sanctuary campus. This means asking the
administration to take concrete steps to ensure a safe and secure
environment for education, research, and service for our undocumented
and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) students, faculty,
workers, and friends.

The petition can be located here: https://goo.gl/forms/ig4o10eiRXUCVS022

This is a precautionary step in light of statements of intention by the
President-elect. If you are interested in learning about the
vulnerabilities of our DACA students, for example, I refer you to the
following news story:

Thank you for your consideration,
Sara
