Facebook Censors Post of Muslims Sitting During National Anthem

Facebook’s news censors are apparently at it again, taking down a post of a photograph that shows a couple of Muslim men sitting while others around them stand, as the Canadian National Anthem plays in the background.

Facebook reportedly removed this still shot and post from a video taken by a source who claimed these Muslim men refused to stand during the playing of Canada’s National Anthem.

The photograph was a still shot of a video that was taken, according to CIJ News, during a meeting of Peel School District Board members in Mississauga, Ontario, on November 22.

From CIJ News:

“On December 5, 2016, Facebook sent to Never Again Canada, a Toronto-based group fighting antisemitism and hate speech in Canada, the following message: ‘We removed the post below because it doesn’t follow the Facebook Community Standards.’

“The original post reads: ‘Infuriating! Muslims refuse to stand for ‘0 Canada’ during a Peel District School Board meeting! During the meeting, they shockingly alleged a lack of respect for Muslims in PDSB schools in their presentation to trustees.’”

CIJ News couldn’t verify the authenticity of the video clip. But Facebook’s content standards state this: “We remove content, disable accounts and work with law enforcement when we believe there is a genuine risk of physical harm or direct threats to public safety.”
