Jewish Students Under Siege as Anti-Semitic Campus Attack Count Hits 611

The Muslim community may claim its members are being targeted for discrimination and subjected to religious-based attacks, but when it comes to campus assaults on those of a distinct faith, its Jewish college students who are taking a hard hit.

Look at this, from the AMCHA Initiative, a nonprofit group that tracks incidnets of antisemitism on college campuses around the country: There have been 611 attacks on Jewish students on campuses in America. in 2016 alone.

Just December 14, at the University of Maryland, was this:

“A group called “ProtectUMD” at the University of Maryland released a list of 64 demands in order to make the campus more amenable to “Marginalized, American Indian, Black, Latinx, LGBTQIA+, Muslim, Pro-Palestine, and Undocumented” students. Demand #53 calls for “the active encouragement of faculty and students to engage in discourse and learning about the Palestinians’ struggles and the Boycott Divest and Sanction movement without fear of consequences by the university administration.”

The BDS Movement works to end global support for what it says is “Israel’s oppression of Palestinians” and to pressure the Jewish state to stop building in settlement areas.

Down the street at Anne Arundel Community College on December 12:

“A swastika was discovered carved in a bathroom.

Also on December 12, at Claremont Colleges, Pomona:

“In response to backlash from Hillel and the Claremont Progressive Jewish Alliance about a mural with antisemitic imagery that SJP had painted on campus, SJP released a statement to support the mural. The statement demonized Israel by falsely accusing the state of committing “ethnic cleansing” and “perpetuating Zionist violence” and “literal genocide.” Jewish Voice for Peace likewise released their own statement to support SJP’s mural calling for the right of return, which would effectively eliminate Israel as a Jewish state and deny Jews self-determination if put into practice.

• December 9, 2016 – CUNY HUNTER COLLEGE –
  The Palestine Solidarity Alliance at Hunter College tabled on campus as part of a fundraising bake sale. A large tri-fold poster display on the table promoted BDS.

• December 7, 2016 – WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY ST. LOUIS – SJP held the event “Film Screening: “Pinkwashing Exposed: Seattle Fights Back!” The term “pinkwashing” is a demonizing term that insinuates Israel is malevolently representing itself as a safe haven for LGBQT people in order to hide its “crimes” against Palestinians.

•  December 7, 2016 – GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY –
  A new student group on campus called Georgetown Students for a Radically Ethical Endowment (GU F.R.E.E.) held a rally in Red Square and presented demands to university President John DeGioia that included divestment from companies that contribute to the “occupation of Palestine.” The group distributed fliers that included information on their demands to divest from any holdings in the private prison industry as well as “companies involved in human rights violations stemming from the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.” A poster at the event called for BDS.

•  December 6, 2016 – NASSAU COMMUNITY COLLEGE –
  Three swastikas were found drawn in black ink on a handrail and a wall on campus.

•  December 6, 2016 – COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY/ BARNARD COLLEGE –
  Protesters at Columbia University staged a walkout of a Students Supporting Israel (SSI) event, right as a Jew addressed the room to describe his connection to the land of Israel. The protesters held demonizing signs stating, “Israel is built on land theft, displacement and ethnic cleansing” as well as “Settlers are not indigenous” and “Zionism is racism.”

•  December 6, 2016 – NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY –
  SJP erected a mock “apartheid wall” on campus, which contained two antisemitic expressions, one which denied Jews self-determination by supporting Palestinians’ right of return, which would effectively eliminate the Jewish state, and the other calling for BDS.

•  December 6, 2016 – COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY/ BARNARD COLLEGE –
  Columbia University Apartheid Divest and a collection of 24 other campus groups published a statement that denigrated a pro-Israel group on campus and demonized Israel by falsely accusing it of “ethnic cleansing.” The statement accused the group Students Supporting Israel (SSI) of supporting, “Israel’s active project of ethnic cleansing” and “co-optation of indigeneity” for organizing an event entitled “Indigenous People Unite.” The statement then goes on to identify Palestinians as “indigenous people of Palestine since 1948,” in an attempt to deny Jews any historical connection to Israel before 1948, and to negate Zionism itself as the return of the Jewish people to their ancestral homeland.

•  December 6, 2016 – NEW YORK UNIVERSITY –
  SJP published an “ezine” that demonized Israel by linking white supremacy and Zionism and condoned terrorism by implying violent resistance is legitimate stating, “…we cannot fight against white supremacy in the U.S. without fighting against…Israeli zionsim [sic]….Now more than ever we must reaffirm the right of all oppressed people to resist by any means necessary. Until return.” The phrase, “Until return” alludes to the right of return, which would effectively eliminate Israel as a Jewish state.

•  December 5, 2016 – UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO –
  Antisemitic stickers promoting the AtomWaffen Division that said “Hitler Disapproves,” with an image of Nazi-leader Adolf Hitler in front of multiple swastikas in the background and “No Degeneracy, No Tolerance, Hail Victory” on the bottom of the stickers, were found across the campus.

•  December 4, 2016 – COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY/ BARNARD COLLEGE –
  Columbia University Apartheid Divest held the event, “Hear It From Your Peers.” The advertisement for the event delegitimized Israel, falsely accusing Israel of apartheid.

  The Middle East Speaker Series and SJP held a film screening of “The Occupation of the American Mind: Israel’s Public Relations War in the United States.” In the film, several speakers condoned terrorism against Israelis by justifying all violence against Israel, including acts of terrorism against Israeli citizens, as legitimate “resistance.” Many of the speakers demonized Israel, falsely accusing the Israeli government of “terrorism,” “murderous attacks,” and “acting like a monster,” and calling Israeli soldiers’ actions “inhumane” and “brutal.”
