ISIS in Putin’s backyard: FSB smash terror group plotting major attack on Russia

RUSSIAN counter-terrorism officers have smashed an ISIS gang plotting a major bomb attack on Moscow.

The Federal Security Service (FSB) said it had foiled a series of attacks planned to strike the capital and organised by a group of foreign fighters allied to the murderous terror group.

Among the four men detained were suspected terrorists from Tajikistan and Moldova.

Details of the arrests were given in an FSB statement released this morning, which said “a series of high-profile terrorist attacks in Moscow involving the detonation of powerful improvised explosive devices” had been thwarted.

The police report continued: “The terrorist attacks were being plotted under a direct order by a Turkey-based affiliate of the international terrorist organisation Islamic State, which is outlawed in Russia.”

They were arrested in several locations in and around Moscow. The mastermind behind the plot was said to be on a Tajikistan wanted list.

FSB agents have landed a string of high profile terror arrests in recent months as Russia begins to feel the effects of its bombing campaign in Syria, which has turned the attention of Islamist fanatics towards the Kremlin.

In November Russian security officials made 10 arrests of suspected terrorists connected to ISIS who were feared to be planning attacks in the country.
