Sue Kiley will be Hazlet Mayor in 2017

Hazlet’s Township Committee has selected Deputy Mayor Sue Kiley to lead the community as Mayor in 2017.

Kiley will be sworn in by Lt Governor Kim Guadagno during the Township’s Reorganization meeting which is scheduled for Sunday, January 1, 2017 at noon.  Scott Aagre, the current mayor, will serve as Deputy Mayor in 2017 and also be sworn in by Guadagno.

Aagre, who was reelected in November, and his running mate, Mike Glackin, will be sworn into their three year terms on the Township Committee by Senator Joe Kyrillos.

Kiley will be only the second female mayor in Hazlet’s history and the first in 31 years.  Mary Jane Wiley, now a South Carolina resident, was the Township’s mayor in 1985, according to The Independent.  Kiley said that her parents were volunteers on Wiley’s campaign.

The Township’s Reorganization Meeting will take place at the Municipal Building, 1776 Union Ave.
