Wednesday evening, Briefs received a copy of a letter that AZGOP Robert Graham had e-mailed to the AZGOP Executive Board at 5:58 pm., Jan 18 regarding the Graham vs LD23 Saga that has been dragging on since early December. Due to conflicting stories circulating and noticing some omissions in the four-page letter, Briefs made an exception to its 300 word limit policy and posted the entire letter 1-19-17-briefs archives so there would be “no misunderstanding as to what Graham wrote.” Thursday afternoon, the Arizona Freedom Alliance Team posted a rebuttal to Graham’s letter Robert Graham’s Last Stand that is riddled with red ink where LD23 PCs on the AFA team point out alleged flaws, inaccuracies and misleading information. They literally shred Graham’s letter. This is getting uglier by the day. – ft

Navajo County Republican Committee Chairman Steven Slaton and First Vice-Chairman Karen M MacKean to Chairman Graham: We, the Navajo County Republican Committee, do not support your ongoing actions towards LD-23, our fellow precinct committeemen and their legal process to elect State Committeemen. By all accounts they, per their published communications, followed the State by-laws and procedures in the fair and defined nominations for their precinct committeemen to be elected as state committeemen.

We find these actions by the outgoing chairman abusive and overstepping his authority as AZ GOP Chairman. We find Chairman Graham, in trying to stop the LD-23 state committeemen from voting in the state convention on January 28, would be over stepping his authority which is not granted within the state by-laws, as well as meddling into a districts administrative process. After 5 weeks, Chairman Graham never produced any evidence of a complaint filed by any LD-23 committeemen, or passed along evidence to the other state county chairmen for review. It is unwarranted by any chairman to solicit complaints or to fabricate a non-issue. These un-proven claims being brought by Chairman Graham to be used to stop the largest LD district from voting is a disgrace to the GOP.

To the best of our knowledge neither, Jonathan Lines or Frank Thorwald have stood up and rejected this abuse of power and nonsense! It’s this type of drama that makes state committeemen not want to participate in the state convention process. All State Committeemen, being duly elected, spend their time, energy & money as concerned citizens to attend these meetings and they should be run in a more businesslike and certainly a more respectful manor for all those involved. Perhaps, if the Chairman was concerned about a specific candidate’s election, he should go out and campaign for him rather than trying to destroy an entire legislative district.

Arizona Town Crier Jim Ehl: In case one didn’t receive what’s really happening in LD23 Could someone explain how Chairman Graham, with no authority to do so, can try to disenfranchise LD23 state chairmen candudate Jim O’Connor?? You, PCs, who have set on your back sides and ignored his autocratic running of the AZ GOP for 4 years may have to face the piper!

Activist Barbara Medal: Greetings fellow state committeemen. It is with great pride and much gratitude from me that Jim O’Connor is willing to take on the state GOP chairmanship. Jim is a just, moral and principled man. His knowledge of our Constitution and his willingness and dedication to protect it along with his support of our Republican platform ensures that ALL the precinct committeemen of AZ can be assured he will work with and for us to do the job we have been prevented from doing for too long. Jim’s competence is and has been clearly demonstrated throughout the years as he has served in various offices as well as his personal and professional accomplishments. We PCs, who are the base of this Party and from whence the power emanates have been hampered, attacked and some have even prevented from continuing to be a serving precinct committeeman. Attacks and misinformation and, yes, I would go as far as to say many untruths have been used to try to decimate this moral and gentle man. It is up to you state committeemen to vote for the finest and most competent candidate so together we can rebuild the Republican Party to the Grand Old Party of the past..
