Iran Imprisons Female Bodybuilder For ‘Un-Islamic’ Fitness Photographs

A female bodybuilder in Iran has been arrested and thrown in jail for posting what religious and government leaders say were “un-Islamic” photographs of her fitness results on social media.

This is Sharia at work; a female showing bare arms is considered “nude,” and therefore, violating religious laws against pornography.

The state-run news agency reported it this way, the Express said:

“One of the female bodybuilders who recently published nude photographs on social networks has been arrested.”

The woman wasn’t named by government sources, but it’s likely she is Shirin Nobahari, an Instagram and social media star in Iran.

Nude, in Iran-speak, is still clothed by Western standards.

From the Express:

“In Iran, ‘nude’ can refer to a woman who is not wearing a headscarf or is revealing parts of her body such as arms and legs.

“The woman who was arrested is being held in prison as she reportedly could not afford to pay the bail, which was £41,000.

“Although Iranian woman are allowed to take part in international sporting events, they must respect Islamic rules on clothing at all times.”

Female swimmers in Iran, for instance, have to wear full body suits and headscarves; runners and others have to wear full tracksuits with long sleeves.

The female bodybuilder had reportedly been previously warned about her photos and selfies, which were deemed “un-Islamic” by Iran’s ruling elite.
