Latino Colorado Rep makes the case for his bill protecting citizens from criminal aliens

The Colorado Politician Accountability Act to be introduced this week by Colorado State Representative Dave Williams

DENVER, CO – A bill that would impose civil and criminal liability on elected officials for harm done against Coloradans because of sanctuary city policies will be introduced by Colorado State Representative Dave Williams (R – Colorado Springs).

“As the first Latino elected to CO House District 15, I think it’s important that we do all we can to uphold the rule of law and ensure all communities, regardless of race or ethnicity, are protected from dangerous policies that are forced on us by radical, out-of-touch politicians who continually sell out to an unlawful agenda that increases the number of criminals, and needless deaths among our fellow citizens” Representative Williams said.

In response to Mayor Michael Hancock’s assertion that he and the city of Denver will continue to act above the law by continuing their dangerous and lawless sanctuary city policies, Representative Williams stated:

“It’s beyond any reasonable thought as to why the Democrats, along with Mayor Hancock, would continue to not only act outside the law, which they swore to uphold but also enjoy immunity from their reckless decision to place Coloradans in danger because of the sanctuary city policies that they created and continue to implement.”

Unfortunately, there are several stories that show the carnage that has been inflicted on Colorado communities by politicians who adopt sanctuary city policies.

Francis Hernandez, an illegal alien who had multiple run-ins with law enforcement, was convicted for the deaths of three Coloradans in 2008. Hernandez ran a red light and caused a vehicle to crash into a Baskin-Robbins ice cream store that killed two adults and one toddler who was waiting to receive an ice-cream cone. To make matters worse, federal immigration authorities were never notified about Hernandez after his repeated encounters with local law enforcement prior to these deaths.

Roberto Martinez-Ruiz, another illegal alien who was arrested multiple times since 1996, committed a hit-and-run that resulted in the death of a Coloradan in 2004. An investigation “confirmed that no local law enforcement agency, prosecutor or judge ever contacted federal immigration officials in Denver to have him deported.” (7NEWS Denver, 2-8-2005)

Raul Garcia-Gomez was another illegal alien that murdered a Denver police officer in 2005. It was reported that prior to the murder, Garcia-Gomez was stopped three times for traffic violations by local law enforcement. Again, federal immigration officials were never notified even though Garcia-Gomez was unable to produce any proof of residency or insurance.

“There are countless stories here in Colorado, and around the country, that illustrate the need for justice against lawless politicians and their sanctuary city policies. The story of Kate Steinle is another unfortunate example that highlights this very issue. Her family is not allowed to seek justice against San Francisco or its elected officials. 

My bill would allow victims, with similar circumstances, the ability to file civil suits and criminal complaints against Colorado politicians who care more about illegal aliens than protecting the people they are supposed to serve.”
