• Police source said the attacker was shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ before being gunned down
• Streets around the Louvre have been evacuated and France’s interior ministry branded the incident ‘serious’
• French Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve has described the attack as ‘terrorist in nature’
• A second person has been arrested, but it is not known if they were linked to the attack
• The attacker’s identity has not been confirmed but he is known to be an Egyptian national

PICTURES of the man suspected of the Louvre terror attack have been released for the first time since the horror machete assault.

Egyptian national Abdallah El Hamahmy has been accused of carrying out the attack in Paris.The machete-wielding man was shot five times in the stomach as horrified tourists hid in the gallery.He screamed “Allahu Akbar” as he charged at four soldiers in the French capital.An Egyptian interior ministry official confirmed the suspect’s identity to The Associated Press on Saturday.

Detectives are probing a Twitter account belonging to El Hamahmy.Twelve tweets, posted between 9.27am and 9.34am French time, allegedly referenced Islamic State and conflict in Syria.It said: “In the name of Allah… for our brothers in Syria and fighters across the world.”

Le Parisen reports the last tweet posted before the attack said there is “no peace in war”.The account has since been suspended.Investigators have revealed El Hamahmy entered France legally on a flight from Dubai on January 26.He also rented a pricey apartment near the Champs Elysee.
