Media Whitewash: Creating Sympathetic Propaganda

Daniel Ramirez Medina was allowed to stay in the United States, under Obama, as an illegal immigrant, brought here as a 7 year old child (DACA – “dreamers”). ICE Agents had a warrant for the arrest of his father, a previously deported, convicted felon, but here are 3 different major publications who paint a sympathetic picture of the subject in custody:

The man, Daniel Ramirez Medina, has twice been granted deferred action and employment authorization under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, his lawyers said. The program, announced in 2012, is meant to temporarily shield qualified individuals from deportation.

The case raises questions about what it could mean for Dreamers, undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children. Ramirez came to the US from Mexico when he was 7 years old and became a DACA recipient in 2014 and renewed in 2016, according to court papers filed by his attorneys.

Immigration rights groups say they believe this may be the first time a Dreamer has been arrested without cause.

Immigration agents have detained and threatened to deport a 23-year-old immigrant in Washington state who came to the U.S. illegally as a 7-year-old and later received protection under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, a new lawsuit says.

Daniel Ramirez Medina was arrested at his father’s home south of Seattle on Friday by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, according to a lawsuit filed by civil rights lawyers in federal court in Seattle this week. Ramirez is being held at a federal immigration detention facility in Tacoma, Wash.

U.S. immigration authorities have detained a 23-year-old Mexican man who was brought to the United States illegally as a child and given a work permit during the Obama administration, according to a lawsuit challenging the detention in Seattle federal court.

The man’s lawyers say this could be the first time under U.S. President Donald Trump that a person covered by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, has been taken into immigration custody. The program was established in 2012 by Democratic President Barack Obama to allow those brought to the country while young to attend school and work.

Ethan Dettmer, a partner in the law firm Gibson Dunn & Crutcher and one of the lawyers representing the man, Daniel Ramirez Medina, said he is not aware of any other DACA recipient who has been arrested.

Alright, now don’t you feel sufficient disgust for mean old Donald Trump? I mean, the nerve, going after this helpless kid who was just minding his own business, at the home of his previously deported, convicted felon, father. What none of these source bother to mention is that when being question by ICE agents, who asked if this DREAMer was in the country legally, he became belligerent and identified himself as a gang member. ICE promptly placed him under arrest as a danger to public safety and transferred him to Tacoma pending deportation proceedings.

They didn’t arrest his younger brother, because the younger – brother who was also here illegally and likewise protected under DACA – is not a belligerent,gang-banging criminal. This story has nothing to do with DACA or his DACA status. ICE agents are not arresting people who are covered by DACA.

They are arresting persons illegally in the US, who are threats to public order and safety – without regard to their DACA status. This is how the press white-washes the stories they tell.
