Trump Administration Mulls Label of Muslim Brotherhood As a Terrorist Organization

President Donald Trump’s administration is reportedly mulling a measure that would label the Muslim Brotherhood, along with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps and the Quds Force, as a terrorist organization.

The move, if made, would prove a dramatic departure from Barack Obama’s previous administrative policy of embracing the Brotherhood as a moderate Muslim outfit.

From the Hill:

“Current and former Trump administration officials told the Times the measure would also designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps. and its Quds Force as terror groups as well.

“Leaders of both already appear on a government terrorism list, but Republicans have urged adding the corps itself as a message to Tehran.

“The Iran portions of the plan have strong momentum in the White House, while the Muslim Brotherhood section is less favored, the report said.”

Career workers at the State Department, for instance, say labeling the Brotherhood as a terrorist outfit could cause long-term diplomatic damage. This is the State Department that’s just come off a term of leadership from Hillary Clinton, who’s right hand woman, Huma Abedin, who once worked at a Sharia-supportive Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs ran and edited in part by her own mother.

But let’s be real here. The Muslim Brotherhood’s goals include implementation of Sharia law around the globe. One of the Muslim Brotherhood’s favorite slogans is “Islam is the Solution.” Another? “Jihad is our way.” The Muslim Brotherhood’s already labeled a terrorist organization by the likes of the United Arab Emirates.

And then there’s this, from the Hill:

“The Brotherhood calls for a society governed by Islamic law, leading some of Trump’s advisers to worry it may promote similar rules in the U.S.

“Trump’s chief strategist and senior counselor Steve Bannon has prominently criticized the Brotherhood and its goals.

“Bannon called the group “the foundation of modern terrorism” in a proposed 2007 film on radical Islam, according to a summary obtained by The Washington Times last week.”
