Trump Is Smarter Than Obama
During his imperious Presidency Barack Obama never saw fit to invite Republican Congresspeople to a private meeting. It was beneath him, I guess. After all, how could he villainize them and still allow them a few minutes of his time?
Trump comes from a different place. Elijah Cummings is an outspoken, dedicated progressive who acts like he hates Republicans. But he has an ego and Trump knows a bit about them. By inviting Cummings to a private meeting he has stroked his ego and softened his opposition.
Maybe Trump can negotiate with just about anyone.
