Baltimore Prosecutors Warned Not to Charge Illegal Aliens

All the animals are equal on the Animal Farm, but illegal aliens are far more equal than people who are in the country legally. For example, they are less likely to be charged with crimes in moonbat-managed Baltimore:

The Baltimore State’s Attorney’s Office has instructed prosecutors to think twice before charging illegal immigrants with minor, non-violent crimes in response to stepped up immigration enforcement by the Trump administration.

Theft that fails to qualify as grand theft would be an example of a “minor, non-violent” crime.

Chief Deputy State’s Attorney Michael Schatzow, in a memo sent to all staff Thursday and obtained by The Baltimore Sun, wrote that the Justice Department’s deportation efforts “have increased the potential collateral consequences to certain immigrants of minor, non-violent criminal conduct.”

“In considering the appropriate disposition of a minor, non-violent criminal case, please be certain to consider those potential consequences to the victim, witnesses, and the defendant,” Schatzow wrote.

That is, prosecutors are discouraged from bringing the same charges against illegal aliens that they would against American citizens committing identical crimes, because the illegals might conceivably get deported.

This is likely to have been approved by Marilyn Mosby of Freddie Gray infamy, who incredibly is still on the job as State’s Attorney for Baltimore.

Maryland has so totally succumbed to moonbattery that there are hardly any grownups in positions of authority to put up resistance to this lunacy.

U.S. Rep. Andy Harris, the lone Republican in Maryland’s congressional delegation, said it is “a real shame that the State Attorney’s office is unwilling to enforce the law against illegal aliens who commit crimes in the United States.”

Unfortunately, Maryland is not alone. New York’s Acting District Attorney Eric Gonzalez issued similar instructions to state prosecutors:

“We must ensure that a conviction, especially for a minor offense, does not lead to unintended and severe consequences like deportation, which can be unfair, tear families apart and destabilize our communities and businesses.”

We must not enforce the law when it is violated by illegal aliens, because that would “tear families apart.” No one cares if your family is torn apart when you get thrown in jail for breaking those same laws if you have the bad luck to be an American citizen.
