New York State Passes Fiscally Insane Socialized Medicine Bill

For those who have not yet escaped New York, now might be a good time — before the state Senate becomes as progressive as the Assembly, which has just passed a bill that would more than double taxes so as to impose socialized medicine:

The “Medicare-for-all” bill—designed to provide health insurance to all state residents—passed the predominantly Democratic Assembly Tuesday afternoon…

The bill has passed the Assembly twice before, but then stalled in the more conservative and currently Republican-controlled state Senate, as it is expected to again.

One of these days it will get through the Senate too. Although Andrew Cuomo has been noncommittal, I wouldn’t put it past him or the next moonbat governor to sign it.

The program would require some $90 billion annually in new tax revenue, analysts said. [Sponsor Richard] Gottfried [D-Manhattan] said it would be partly funded through a progressive increase in state payroll taxes.

To put that in perspective, last year New York currently collected a total $71.6 billion in taxes. Its already infamously excessive taxation would have to be more than doubled.

If the history of government programs is prelude to their future, the $90 billion would only be a starting point. Meanwhile, the tax base would get the hell out of there. We’ve seen what people would do to escape East Germany and Cuba. Crossing state boundaries is much easier.

Then the Democrat Death Spiral will turn the entire state into a massive Detroit.
