Roger Ailes Died This Morning

Roger Eugene Ailes (May 15, 1940 – May 18, 2017) was an American television executive and media consultant. He passed away after complications from falling and hitting his head at his home the week before his death. He suffered from hemophilia, and in the 2013 book Roger Ailes: Off Camera, Ailes spoke about facing death, saying, “Because of my hemophilia, I’ve been prepared to face death all of my life. When it comes, I’ll be fine, calm. I’ll miss life, though. Especially my family.”

Ailes was the founder and former Chairman and CEO of Fox News and the Fox Television Stations Group. It was Ailes who pursued the conservative platform for the network, and brought in much of the talent that has made the network the most watched news channel in the world. He resigned in July 2016 following unfounded allegations that he sexually harassed female colleagues.

Prior to his time at Fox News, Ailes was a media consultant for Republican presidents Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and George H. W. Bush. He also worked with Rudy Giuliani’s first mayoral campaign in New York City, and Donald Trump’s successful presidential campaign in 2016.

His wife, Elizabeth, announced his death in a statement on the Drudge Report:

Statement from Elizabeth Ailes: I am profoundly sad and heartbroken to report that my husband, Roger Ailes, passed away this morning. Roger was a loving husband to me, to his son Zachary, and a loyal friend to many. He was also a patriot, profoundly grateful to live in a country that gave him so much opportunity to work hard, to rise—and to give back. During a career that stretched over more than five decades, his work in entertainment, in politics, and in news affected the lives of many millions. And so even as we mourn his death, we celebrate his life...
