A Tiny Fraction of Obama’s Mischief Undone

We may never fully repeal ObamaCare, get the debt back under control, or win back the full trust of our allies, but at least Carol Denise Richardson is back in a cage where she belongs:

A Texas City woman who was granted clemency by the former presidential administration has been ordered back to federal prison for violating the terms of her supervised release, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Abe Martinez.

A federal jury convicted Carol Denise Richardson, 49, of Texas City, for conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of cocaine base as well as two counts of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine base. On June 16, 2006, U.S. District Judge Keith P. Ellison noted her extensive criminal history and ordered her to federal prison for the rest of her life.

However, former U.S. President Barack Obama granted Richardson clemency in early 2016.

Contrary to liberal dogma, letting criminals out of jail does not magically transform them into angels. Her various transgressions include abandoning her job, getting arrested for theft, and blowing off her probation officer. Back she goes to jail, unfortunately only for 14 months instead of for the rest of the original sentence.

You could pardon Richardson completely and give her $1 million. Chances are excellent that 1 year later, she would be back behind bars.

She follows in the not so proud tradition of fellow Texan Robert Gill:

A San Antonio man who was freed from life in prison by President Barack Obama is back behind bars after allegedly crashing his vehicle into another motorist and undercover police cars while fleeing from a drug deal Thursday.

Robert M. Gill, 68, whose life sentence for cocaine and heroin distribution conspiracy was commuted by Obama and expired in 2015, was profiled last year in the Express-News about his readjustment to life on the outside. …

“I believed there were people in government with rational minds who sooner or later would realize that the sentence wasn’t fair,” Gill said last year. “Yes, you have the thought that you’re going to die in prison — that’s a human reaction. But there’s always the possibility that they’ll acknowledge the injustice.”

Too bad Richardson and Gill are drug dealers rather than unrepentant terrorists. Instead of going back to jail, they might be leading a New York City parade.
