Whatever happened to Mary Hopkin?
In 1968, I was another teen boy with a crush on Mary Hopkin. Why not? Who wouldn’t have a crush on a beautiful young woman from Wales with such a beautiful voice?
Mary was one of the first artists to record under Apple Records, the Beatles’ label.
Her first song “Those were the days” became one of the biggest hits of the year and the decade:
Her second single was a Paul McCartney tune called “Goodbye”:
Her third single was “Temma Harbour“, a song that did well in the UK but had little success in the US.
Her fourth single was “Knock Knock”, a very catchy tune and one of my favorites:
Mary Hopkin had a very brief career. I loved her voice and style. This is one of my favorites “Lontano Dagli Occhi”:
In the early 1970′s, Mary got married and left the music business. As I understand the story, she became a full time mother and recorded little.
In 1972, she recorded “Mary had a little baby”, one of my favorite pop Christian tunes:
Where is Mary Hopkin? I don’t know. I hope that she is doing well and in good health. Mary Hopkin recorded some wonderful songs!
