It was July 18th that the Security Police arrested a 38-year-old man in Nässjö in Småland and was subsequently detained on suspicion of preparation for general devastation.
Criminal suspicions apply from April 1 this year and beyond. However, the preliminary investigation is confidential and it has been unclear exactly why the man, who has Iranian origin but both Swedish and Afghan citizenship, was arrested.
Now Italy’s anti-terrorist police state that the man is suspected of attempting to manufacture a bomb.
It was the Italian police who warned Säpo that the man on several occasions tried to buy 400 kilograms of fertilizer via the net.
Artificial fertilizer was what, for example, Anders Behring Breivik used when he set off a bomb at the government office in Oslo 2011.
“The effort has been made on the basis of our mission to prevent serious crimes (from being) committed and it has been done in close cooperation with local police,” says Åsa Nilsson, Head of the Investigation Unit at the Swedish Security Service.
The security police are conducting the preliminary investigation, which is  led by prosecutors at the Security Unit for Security Objectives.
“Our task is to protect democracy and the security of the country and that is why we are in the forefront, Karl Melin, Press Officer at Säpo, said earlier to SVT.
The man is likely  suspected of preparing for general devastation. He denies any crime.
