Jeh Johnson Demonstrates Why We Need Limited Government

Most will agree that we need the government to provide security. But even so, the ultimate security resides in our ability to limit the government’s power. Otherwise, “security” means whatever authorities say it means, no matter how absurd. For example:

Jeh Johnson said the removal of Confederate statues was a matter of “public safety and homeland security” on Sunday.

Regarding the campaign to eliminate all traces of Confederate history, which recently has gone into overdrive, with historical statues and war memorials around the country being vandalized by leftist mobs or disappearing during the night:

“I salute those in cities and states who are taking down a lot of these monuments for reasons of public safety and security,” he added. “And that’s not a a matter of political correctness. That’s a matter of public safety and homeland security and doing what’s right.”

Under Obama, this character was in charge of Homeland Security.

If forcing currently disfavored historical figures down the Memory Hole to prevent them from becoming what Johnson calls “rallying points” for political opposition is now a matter of public safety and homeland security, so is anything else the government may want to impose.

Whichever side you are on, the other side will be in power sooner or later. That’s why limited government benefits everyone — except tyrants.
