DeSantis is done with Congress, poised to make a gubernatorial run

Back in 2012 when then-Republican congressional candidate was pressing the flesh and making promises in hopes to win the GOP nomination in Florida’s 6th congressional district, Rep. Ron DeSantis is making good on one of those campaign promises.

Rep. DeSantis ran on term limits platform, and from the looks of it, the husband and father of soon-to-be two children, is clocking out from his day job in the U.S. Congress.

In 2016, DeSantis ran for the U.S. Senate, but Senator when Rubio entered the Republican primary race after losing his presidential run, he cleared the field, leaving DeSantis to run again in his congressional district.

Having won re-election three times is apparently good enough for DeSanits. He is not running for re-election in 2018. You can bank on that.

Now the proud papa is mulling over a run for Governor of Florida.

While DeSantis has not made a decision on whether he is running or not, all signs point to a possible early 2018 gubernatorial announcement.

Does anyone blame DeSantis for leaving Congress?

Aside from being on the right side of every single issue that he and his Republican colleagues have faced, the moderate-leaning House Leadership has proven to be nothing more than an ideological road block for DeSantis, the Freedom Caucus, and President Donald Trump.

Just last week, DeSantis told the Shark Tank that House Leadership was preventing a House investigation into Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and any other Democratic member involved in the House IT scandal.

DeSantis is ready to jump, the question is when will he take that gubernatorial leap of faith.

If DeSantis decides to run for governor, he will face a stiff primary challenge from Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam, who is considered the favorite to with the GOP primary.

House Speaker Richard Corcoran is also angling to make a gubernatorial run and could pose a bit of a threat to DeSantis’ ‘right flank.’
