US Jewish leadership ignores consequences that Muslim immigration has had on European Jewry

Since the beginning of the so-called refugee crisis, much of the Jewish leadership in the United States has embraced the immigration of migrants from Syria, despite Syria being among the most anti-Semitic countries in the world. The Jewish leadership in the United States has ignored the plight of European Jews, which has largely been a result of mass Muslim immigration.

Up until the early 1940’s, Syria had a Jewish population of over 50,000 strong. After Israel declared its independence, Syria’s Jewish population was cleansed. As of 2017, the Jewish population in Syria is less than 50 individuals. Syria has never recognized Israel since its inception, and has fought four wars with the Jewish state. Syria also continues to assist Iran and Hezbollah, with their genocidal war against Israel.

As for Syrian public opinion, Jews have not fared much better. Much of the general population in Syria has horrible opinions of Israelis and Jews. The media in Syria will include anti-Semitic talking points in their articles, along with despicable anti-Semitic caricatures, and often compares Israel to Nazis.

However, this has not stopped many Jewish leaders in the United States from aggressively lobbying politicians, to support Syrian refugee programs. Some Jews have also shamelessly compared Syrian migrants to Jews trying to escape the Nazi regime prior to World War II.

In February 2017, the organization HIAS (formerly the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) organized a large pro- Syrian immigration rally in New York. HIAS launched a “welcome campaign” that received the support of nearly 300 synagogues and 2000 rabbis. Organizations such as the ADL and J-Street, and the American Jewish Committee supported the campaign wholeheartedly. The Rabbinical Assembly followed suit, as did the Jewish Council of Public Affairs. Evidently much of the Jewish leadership in the United States refuses to understand or accept that Muslim immigration has been a disaster for European Jewry. Perhaps they don’t care? Perhaps they have a different agenda?

The most obvious example is France. France has the world’s largest Jewish community outside of Israel and the United States, with over 500,000 strong. Up until the early 2000’s (prior to the mass influx of Muslim immigration) French Jews (for the most part) were fortunate to live in a thriving Jewish community. Close to 300,000 Jews live in Paris alone. The city is home to hundreds of kosher restaurants. France is also home to many Jewish publications, Jewish schools, and even a Jewish radio station. The synagogues would be packed during the high holidays. Thousands of Jews also live outside of Paris, in cities such as Marseilles, Lyon, Strasbourg, and Toulouse.

Then the French Government opened up their borders to citizens of Morocco and Algeria, which have been described as “moderate” Muslim countries. The consequences to French Jews were felt almost immediately. Anti-Semitic incidents began to surge rapidly. However, nothing could have prepared France’s Jewish community for what happened to French Jew Ilan Halimi in 2006. Halimi was lured by an attractive female member of the Muslim “Gang of Barbarians” to an apartment. Over the next several weeks, Halimi was viciously tortured. Halimi would, sadly, be pronounced dead shortly after being discovered by French authorities.

The attacks would continue. In 2012, a French Muslim of Algerian decent attacked a Jewish school in Toulouse. Seven people, including three children, were murdered. Despite assurances from the French government, which vowed to protect its country’s Jews, nothing has really changed. In fact, anti-Semitic incidents in France increased exponentially. French Jews were subjected to daily bullying, attacks, and insults. It became unsafe to be Jewish in public. Attendance at synagogues plummeted, due to the fear of terrorist attacks. Reports have indicated that there has been a 700 percent increase in French anti-Semitism since the 1990’s.

In the summer of 2014, Israel launched Operation Protective Edge. Subsequently, the situation for the French Jewish community became even more dangerous. On July 20, 2014, hundreds of Muslim protestors took to the streets of the Sarcelles Jewish quarter. The Muslim protestors were armed with metal bars and wooden clubs to protest Israel’s actions against Hamas. Jewish-owned business were looted. Dozens of cars were vandalized. The protestors attempted to attack a synagogue while the terrified worshipers were inside, desperately waiting for the police. The protestors would also yell “Jews to the gas.” In 2015, the Hyper Cacher kosher supermarket was attacked by Amedy Coulibaly, a French Muslim from Mali. He pledged allegiance to ISIS. Coulibaly indicated that he was targeting Jews in order to defend Muslims and Palestinians. Coulibaly would go on to kill four French Jews on that day.

By 2017, some polls indicated that 70 percent of French Jews are contemplating a move to Israel. Since 2013, over 30,000 French Jews have immigrated to Israel, with thousands more on the way. French Jewish schools are under police and even military protection. School principals have advised Jewish parents not to enroll their children into schools that have large Muslim student populations. An elderly Jewish women was murdered in Paris by her Muslim neighbor, who yelled “Allahu akbar” as he pushed her off her balcony. As we start 2018, a kosher restaurant was set ablaze. What used to be large Jewish neighborhoods have now been reduced to a few families, since many of these suburbs are now being inhabited by hostile Muslim citizens. Synagogues are being closed and converted into mosques.

These type of sad stories are not limited to France. Neighboring Belgium and Holland have also experienced a huge spike in anti-Semitic attacks by Muslim immigrants. The most famous example was the terrorist attack by a French Muslim on a Jewish museum in Brussels. Sweden, a country of 15,000 Jews, has become unsafe for its Jewish citizens. The city of Malmö has become particularly hostile for the Jewish community, some of whom were the victims of a fire bombing at a Malmö synagogue. The bombing was caused by Muslim migrants, who were protesting Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. In Germany, since Angela Merkel opened her country’s doors to millions from Syria, anti-Semitism towards Germany’s Jews is rampant, according to a recent German study.

It would be interesting to know if the left-wing U.S Jewish leadership, which has advocated for Muslim immigration, cared to provide this information to their naïve and ill-informed Jewish supporters. Did the folks at J-Street, HIAS, and the ADL inform their supporters that Europe is once again dangerous for Jews because of mass Muslim immigration? Probably not.

In the United States, we are already seeing the early consequences of Muslim immigration. Imams are inciting violence and hatred against Jews in mosques all over the United States. University campuses have become unsafe for Jews who support Israel. Anti-Semitism is reaching alarming levels, as Jews continue to be the most targeted group for hate crimes in the United States, despite significant media attention on Islamophobia. According to a recent Pew poll, Muslims (at the current rate) will overtake Jews as the second largest religion in the United States by 2040.

In the future, U.S Jews may not be able to enjoy the convenient lives that they have become so accustomed to. Perhaps U.S Jews will have to confront the same issues that European Jews face every day. There may be a time when U.S Jews need help. However, it is very unlikely that they will be able to turn to the J-Streets and ADL’s of the world.

History will not be kind to the Jewish leadership in the United States.
