Canada Strikes “Mr.” and “Ms.” from Newspeak Dictionary

Progressives don’t rest on their laurels. The purpose of every step they take is to set up the next step. For example, abolishing “Mrs.” and “Miss” in favor of the feminist “Ms.” did not suffice. Now “Mr.” and “Ms.” must be abolished as well, along with any other linguistic acknowledgment of the two genders, according to a Canadian government directive:

The directive, obtained by Radio Canada, the French-language arm of CBC, instructs Service Canada employees who interact with the public to stay away from terms such as Mr., Mrs., father and mother, and to “use gender-neutral language or gender-inclusive language.”

Agents of Service Canada have been told to address people by their full name. Still more awkward and insane is the requirement that they refer to mothers and fathers as parent number one and parent number two.

Helen Kennedy, executive director of the LGBT rights group Egale Canada, said her group was “very pleased” to hear about the changes.

No doubt.

The stated point is to avoid “portraying a perceived bias toward a particular sex or gender.” The larger purpose is to move us one step closer to a grotesque dystopia that not even liberals are sufficiently depraved to envision clearly, but that incrementally comes into focus as we approach it.

Having encountered pushback and ridicule, bureaucrats promise to make corrections to the directive. Agents will be allowed to say “Mr.” and “Ms.” after establishing their interlocutor’s preferred honorific.

That calling a guy “Mr.” is now regarded as controversial indicates that honorifics will not be with us for long.
