Outrageously Unreasonable Arizona Teachers Strike Is Illegal

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Driven by insatiable greed and a leftist political agenda, the Arizona teachers strike has been wreaking havoc for parents scrambling to find day care and for seniors who thought they were going to graduate next month.

Arizona’s allegedly Republican Governor Doug Ducey, facing reelection this year, has already folded, offering teachers an outlandish 20% raise that will be a major hardship for taxpayers and that will drive up wage inflation for the public sector. The teachers walked out anyway.

Whatever you give leftists, it will never be enough. They want more than money; they want to drive Ducey out of office, so they refuse to take yes for an answer. They know the liberal media will always spin the conflict in their favor, no matter how cushy their jobs or egregious their behavior. The coverage on local Fox 10 is so enragingly biased in favor of striking teachers, it may give me an aneurysm.

If Reagan could fire skilled air traffic controllers rather than knuckle under to union thuggery, someone needs to step up and fire these teachers. As the Goldwater Institute reminds us, what they are doing is illegal:

Public school teachers in Arizona have no legal right to strike, and their contracts require that they report for work as they agreed. Breaking those contracts isn’t just illegal—it’s also “unprofessional conduct” under Arizona’s education laws. As we explain in a letter that we’ve sent to school districts [Friday], the unlawful strike also violates several other state laws—exposing offending school districts and officials to substantial legal liability.

Arizona teachers just got a substantial pay increase, even before Ducey folded. Give in to extortion and you will never be done paying. Fire them now.

On a tip from Varla.
