The identities and ethnicity of the mob has been scrubbed from the few news reports. The attack took place outside an Afghan restaurant in Alum Rock area of Birmingham. The 2011 population census recorded Alum Rock as having the highest Muslim population in migrant heavy Birmingham.

This is the shocking moment a gang of armed thugs smash up a Mercedes before beating a defenceless man to the ground outside an Afghan restaurant.

Around 20 men wielding hammers, cricket bats and planks of wood were caught on video smashing car windows and attacking members of the public outside Kabul Darbar in the Alum Rock area of Birmingham.

Dramatic footage showed one man with blood pouring from his head after being chased down and beaten senseless by the mob.

A member of the gang was also seen jumping up and down on the bonnet of the Mercedes while another shattered its brake lights with a hammer, before several men fled the scene in two cars.

Police said a 23-year-old man was taken to hospital with head, leg and arm injuries which are not life-threatening, while another man, aged 29, suffered an arm injury.

The savage attack took place last night and footage has been passed to the police.

The horrifying incident – captured by several witnesses on mobile phones – shows the gang repeatedly striking the silver Mercedes with weapons while terrified customers take refuge inside the restaurant.

The thugs are then seen hurrying into two cars – one black and one silver – and speeding away

The gang then sets its sights on a lone man who bolts for cover but they jump him and beat him to the ground.

Another man rushes to the victim’s aid as he sits on the concrete with blood seeping from his temple and appears unable to stand up.

Stunned onlookers nervously emerge from the restaurant to help the victim and assess the damage.

A second clip shows the Mercedes up close with all its windows smashed in and its bodywork badly dented.
